About me

Luisa Livingstone - Clinical Psychologist

I'm Luisa, a Clinical Psychologist practicing in Melbourne.  I work with adults who have ADHD and related difficulties.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I also have more general experience in treating a broad range of problems, including mood and anxiety disorders; obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD); post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); autism spectrum disorder (ASD); and others.  I've also helped people improve their self-esteem, assertiveness, and interpersonal skills; cope with their emotions more effectively; and navigate relationship issues.

I have a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, and additional training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills training, Play Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.  My approach is predominantly CBT-based, with other therapies incorporated where appropriate.

Why see a psychologist?

Talk things through and be heard.

Sometimes it's easier to talk things through with someone we don't know personally; someone who can be more objective and hopefully bring a fresh perspective. Sometimes our friends and family are too emotionally involved to give us the calm ear and support we need.

Better understand yourself and your experiences.

Clinical Psychologists are trained to assess and treat psychological problems.  Understanding your difficulties, strengths, and why you think and feel the way you do, can help put your life experiences into perspective and give you direction to choose the right help for you.

Evidence-based treatment.

Therapy is about learning ways to change your life for the better.  This might mean learning skills, ways to manage your emotions, or how to change your thinking.  There's lots to learn and the more work you put in the more you will get out of the process.
